Tie of the Civil Order of Alfonso X the Wise granted by the Ministry of Education and Science

For actions aimed at social improvement, and especially, for programs designed for adolescents who leave the educational system before finishing the Compulsory Secondary School.

The Ministry of Education Ángel Gabilondo delivered, on the afternoon of 15 December, the decoration of Alfonso X the Wise in the category of “Tie” to the Association of Historical Institutes of Spain, the Foundation of Aid against Drug Addiction (FAD) and Tomillo Foundation. Luis Castellón, Association´s president, José Ángel Sánchez Asiasín, FAD´s president and Javier Lantero, Tomillo´s president received this recognition on behalf of their respective institutions.

The Order of Alfonso X the Wise is the highest decoration awarded by the King on the motion of the Council of Ministers, together with the Order of Isabella the Catholic granted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Order of Saint Raymond of Peñafort by the Ministry of Justice.

The Ministry of Education thus recognizes the work of the Association of Historical Institutes of Spain for the promotion, conservation and dissemination of the cultural and educational heritage of Secondary Education Establishments that have a historical character. The Foundation of Aid against Drug Addiction (FAD) receives this award on the occasion of its 25th anniversary, years in which it has been developing a task of prevention and social awareness about the damage caused by drug abuse. And lastly, Tomillo Foundation is recognized with this decoration for its actions aimed at social improvement and development of people, especially those who are at risk of social exclusion. Among its activities, it is worth mentioning the Social Intervention Programs for adolescents who leave the Education System before finishing the Compulsory Secondary School (ESO).

The event, which took place at the headquarters of the Ministry of Education, was also attended by Mario Bedera, Secretary of State for Education and Professional Training as well as other Authorities of the Ministry and several members of the awarded organizations.
