Microsoft and Tomillo Foundation collaborate to train young people in cloud computing technology

In the midst of the “fourth industrial revolution”, everyone, on a personal and business level, is using the so-called “cloud” and its services(cloud computing) to get the latest and greatest in technology, boosting business and everyday life. The cloud facilitates many of the activities we perform on a daily basis: communication, banking, gaming, entertainment, business applications, artificial intelligence…

This is a growing sector with difficulties in finding trained professionals. And this is where the collaboration between Microsoft and the Tomillo Foundation, the driving force behind the Alliance for Inclusive Digital Talent which seeks to bring training and employment opportunities in the digital field to people at a social disadvantage.

Microsoft and Tomillo Foundation have established a training program with the objective of creating a portfolio of qualified professionals to work in data centers and other positions in the technology sector, through collaboration with non-profit organizations and educational centers.

The project in Spain

The program has several pillars: on the one hand, a laboratory will be developed in the classroom so that students in the intermediate level of Vocational Training in Computer Science can “learn by doing” by simulating a real work environment.

At the same time, as part of the Tomillo methodology, the socio-emotional, technical and professional skills and competencies of the boys and girls will be worked on.

Motivation and counseling activities will also be carried out in collaboration with other companies, visiting their facilities and data centers and participating in corporate volunteering activities.

To welcome this project to Spain, Microsoft distributed backpacks to Tomillo students at an event in which students cooked traditional foods from their home countries.

As a culmination of the program, Tomillo students will have the opportunity to do an internship at Microsoft Spain, thus strengthening the knowledge acquired.
