For the first time, Tomillo’s Cooking and Catering students prepared Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve dinners for 50 families in difficult situations in the south of Madrid. On December 23 and 30, following the COVID-19 security protocol, 200 dinners were delivered to the families selected in advance.
Volunteer students of the “Kitchen and Waiter Assistant” course of the CIMTO project and students of Basic Vocational Training in Cooking and Catering, from the Tomillo School of Hotel Management, joined together in the Christmas Schoolto put on their aprons together and prepare, for 6 days, the food that was delivered to the diners. The special menu consisted of a starter, a first course, a main course, a main course and a dessert. Each family, chosen in a social intermediation process, received 4 dinners, with the possibility of extending the rations if there were more than 4 members in the household.
In addition to having been a real-life experience and practice for the students, the Christmas School has become a great opportunity for young people to stop being for a few days recipients of aid in their training and become agents of social change, through a solidarity activity in which they have put all their effort and affection.
This initiative has been carried out with the collaboration of Fundación Pelayo and the Consejería de Políticas Sociales, Familias, Igualdad y Natalidad de la Comunidad de Madrid.
