The Tomillo Foundation was founded in 1984 by two friends: Javier Lantero and Manuel Fierros. Both were entrepreneurs eager to contribute to the improvement of society and to promote youth employment in the most disadvantaged neighborhoods in the south of Madrid. They named their project Tomillo (thyme) because of the qualities of this plant: hardy, simple, healing.
Initially, they set up workshops and small businesses in carpentry, gardening, messenger services, cleaning and sewing, and later developed more complete training programs in response to existing needs for specialization. This entrepreneurial impulse attracted collaborations with public entities, companies, volunteers, and most importantly, exceptional people, with such a strong social vocation, that led to the multiplication and diversification of Tomillo’s activities.
Tomillo has evolved up to the present time, but always maintaining its essence: “We believe in the potential of the person and its transforming power”.
To carry out our activities we have a dynamic and innovative team of 200 people, including teachers, pedagogues, psychologists, technicians, etc. who develop the various programs aimed at children, adolescents and families, as well as training and socio-labor orientation.
The Foundation is governed by a Board of Trustees and a Management Team and is supported by a newly constituted Advisory Council.
The Advisory Council is a body of proven experience whose members voluntarily advise the Board of Trustees and the Management Team, sharing opinions and criteria, to strengthen the Foundation in strategic, socio-educational and patrimonial aspects and on any relevant issue that involves improving the social impact of the entity.
