The Tomillo Foundation
The Tomillo Foundation was founded in 1984 by two friends: Javier Lantero and Manuel Fierros. Both entrepreneurs wanted to contribute to the improvement of society and promote youth employment in the most disadvantaged neighborhoods in the south of Madrid. They named the project Tomillo because of the qualities of this plant: resistant, simple and curative.
Constant evolution
In the beginning, the Tomillo Foundation started workshops and small businesses in carpentry, gardening, messenger services, cleaning or sewing, and later developed more complete training programs, responding to the existing needs of specialization and adapted to the needs of the labor market.
The entrepreneurial impulse of the Tomillo Foundation attracted collaborations with public entities, companies, volunteers, and most importantly, exceptional people, with such a strong social vocation, that Tomillo’s activities multiplied and diversified.
Today, we remain true to our essence: “We believe in the potential of the individual and his or her transformative power”.
Our Organization
At the Tomillo Foundation, we have a team of professionals who are experts in social, educational and helping relationships. First, our Management Team, made up of specialists in education, business and social action, leads the foundation’s strategy to maximize our impact.
The Board of Trustees is the highest governing body of Tomillo and ensures the fulfillment of our mission and vision. It establishes strategic lines, approves action plans and ensures transparent and efficient management of resources.
We also have an Advisory Council that, on a voluntary basis, advises the Board of Trustees and the Management Team, sharing opinions and criteria, to strengthen the Foundation in strategic, socio-educational and patrimonial aspects and on any other relevant matter that involves the improvement of the social impact of the entity.

With a degree in Law and a diploma in Business Administration from ICADE, Universidad Pontificia Comillas, she has developed her career basically in large corporations such as Telefónica and Repsol, in international environments (Europe and Latin America) and in regulated sectors such as Energy and Telecommunications. In these companies she has worked as a lawyer, marketing director, director of the Telefónica Foundation and director of sustainability, always trying to leave a positive impact on society in all her actions.

Javier Garilletti
Expert in Strategic Positioning, Corporate Reputation, Sustainability and CSR, in the corporate and foundational fields, with more than 25 years of experience. He is currently a consultant in Strategy, Sustainability and Positioning. He has been General Director of the EY Foundation, and of the PWC Foundation, as well as head of CSR and Sustainability consulting for both organizations. He is currently vice-president of the Spanish Association of Corporate Responsibility Executives (DIRSE) and has collaborated as an expert in the drafting of the new Good Governance Code for Listed Companies.
Javier Gonzalez
Degree in Philosophy from the University of Salamanca and in Economics from the UAM. Master in Business Management and Human Resources from the UCM and the Executive Development Program at IESE. Senior Technician at the Telecommunications Market Commission. He has developed his professional career over the last 24 years in Telefónica, in different companies and institutions of the group. In particular, and in the last 14 years, he has been manager in educational innovation and technology at both Fundación Telefónica and Profuturo. Lecturer of several degrees and masters in many different universities. He is currently a member of the Network of Specialists in Educational Policy in Latin America of the IIEP of Unesco. Volunteer in different non-profit organizations, always linked to educational issues in vulnerable environments.
Luis Mª López-Aranguren
D. in Philosophy and Educational Sciences. For 26 years he was Director of Training and Employment at the Tomillo Foundation. He worked for many years as a teacher and was a member of the advisory board of several institutions.
Mònica Margarit
Mònica is a philologist, specialized in medieval literature at the University of Barcelona, with research stays in European universities such as the Sorbonne, Bologna, Milan and Konstanz. Since 1992 she has developed an extensive career in international university relations, becoming director of this area at the University of Barcelona. She has participated in Spanish-speaking inter-university committees promoted by the AECID, in OEI working groups and as an expert for the European Commission in missions in Africa and Latin America. She has also been an OSCE observer in the first post-war elections in Bosnia-Herzegovina and has directed Universidad.es, the Fundación Princesa de Girona and Madrid Futuro.
David Martín Díaz
Expert in social innovation, education and child and youth participation. He has been director of Ashoka Spain and global co-leader of its “changemaker education” strategy, head of education at UNICEF and Amnesty International and founder of cibercorresponsales.org. Author of the book “Why do we educate?”. He received the Magisterio 2015 award, among others. He is an ICF Coach, Bachelor in Information Sciences, Master in Educational TV and Psychopedagogue. He is currently the Director of Student Development at UCJC and the Master of Entrepreneurship.

Since 2018 he has been working as an independent professional. He is currently a member of FUNDIPE; Talent Action Tank of Fundación Transforma España; Advisory Board of the International Institute of Human Capital.
Isidro Rodriguez
Degree in Psychology from the Complutense University of Madrid. Expert in Strategic Management and Social Leadership from IESE Business School and ESADE Business School. Throughout his career at the Fundación Secretariado Gitano, he has worked for the promotion of the rights and full inclusion of the Roma people, promoting equal access to services, resources and social opportunities. Her work has focused on improving their living conditions, promoting equal treatment and combating any form of discrimination, contributing for more than 30 years to the social recognition of Roma people.
Carmen Salcedo
D. in Social and Cultural Anthropology, since 1992 she has designed and developed educational and social projects focused on the inclusion of vulnerable groups, methodological innovation and cultural promotion. She has developed her experience in Spain and 13 Latin American countries through NGOs, corporate foundations and public administrations. She is currently Director of Research and Educational Projects at UpSocial.
Julia Sánchez Sánchez
Degree in Economics with more than 30 years of experience in multinational companies, having exercised different functions within the Financial Management, such as Controller, Planning and Analysis. She has participated in the creation and development of Financial Service Centers for different countries, as well as in international projects. She currently provides her services as an independent professional. She has actively collaborated in the Corporate Social Responsibility area of Avon Cosmetics, S.A.U., supporting projects related to Breast Cancer and Domestic Violence.
Eduardo Tejero
Law graduate and practicing lawyer in Madrid, he has more than 30 years of experience as a lawyer and legal advisor with special dedication to commercial and private law, corporate governance and board secretarial work. He has developed his professional career at PwC for 28 years and has been a partner of the firm since 2006. He is currently a partner at Buigas.

She has more than 20 years of experience in the design, coordination and evaluation of socio-educational programs aimed at children, adolescents and youth in vulnerable situations, in Italy and Spain, mainly in the third sector and in non-formal education contexts. His career is focused on the promotion of transformative educational methodologies, personalized itineraries and accompaniment processes oriented to the integral development, autonomy and active participation of young people.
